Catching up!

30 June 2026 (13 June – 30 June 2026)

It’s funny how time flies. I went with Jarek and Arya to Scout Camp at Camp Shands this year, from the 14th to the 20th of June. After we got back, it took us a little bit to recover, and of course keeping up with all the usual activities the blogging fell of. Well, no time like the present to catch up!

A gosling that hatched on 13 June.

When we arrived, one of the first orders of business was to get the swim test done. Jarek and Arya didn’t have any problem with it, especially since they have been doing swim team practice this summer.

Arya jumps into the pool for the swim test.

Later that evening, we gathered for the campfire assembly.

Then it was pretty much routine after that. They went and did their merit badge classes, and I was down helping at the range.

I did get a little target practice in.

We usually had an afternoon shower to wait out. Florida is going to Florida.

I wasn’t feeling the camp food, so I brought my own freeze dried meals.

I set up the tent-majal, so I had a nice place to sleep.

Jarek made the sign which was left at our camp site to mark our passage there.

After getting back, we took the weekend to recover. On Monday though, it was back to swim practice for the kids.

Randal was pretty tired, he put himself down for a nap, which rarely happens.

Back at it again the next day with Grandma building his Lego house.

We observed midsummer a few days late, as we were wiped out from Summer Camp.

The kids had an attack of the giggles though!

Randal continues to work on his Lego building.

He’s also working on his smiling, taking after Arya and how she used to smile when she was small!

He does love helping to put away the eggs! He has gotten much better about not breaking them.

He also likes to pick peppers from the garden and bring them in.

The four goslings, about two weeks old, before we sent them off to their new home. Our last incubation batch did pretty well. I made a few adjustments, mostly not adding water (humidity). I think our goose is done laying for now, as she hasn’t laid an egg for some time.

Randal was super proud to show me his Lego fort this morning. He had some mini trains tucked in there, as well as battery ‘missiles’.

Then Garrett and Randal helped make their own breakfasts:

During the day, I did some yard clean up ahead of the 4th of July. We have invited some folks over, so it was time to trim the hay fields and beat back the bushes.

Our neighbor’s extra freezer stopped working, so we helped them out by storing some of their stuff until they get it resolved.

Tonight we had a family movie night, and watched “Willow”.

Randal was quite enthralled with it, as were the other kids.

In the last few days, I was able to finish a project that I’ve been working on. I’ll make that it’s own post here in the next day or two!
