Turkey poult and clean up Sunday!

7 June 2026

Our Sunday morning (really Saturday night) started with with a cheep! A random turkey egg that we found stashed among our animal things hatched, and hatched much earlier than we were expecting.

The last two poults that we had managed to sneak out of their containment, so we are going to have to come up with another solution for this poult.

Spanky, the buck in the middle, has become quite fond of Saria, the black goat. He is quite protective of her. We are rather hoping he will get the deed done and get her pregnant. Somehow she managed to not get pregnant this last winter.

The waterfowl have done a decent job on the tall grass in our neighbor’s yard. They do love to nibble the seed tops. I plan to run the chickens behind them a few days apart to clean up the rest of the grass. The chickens aren’t really fond of the taller grass.

All snuggled up!

I checked on the poult the next morning, and the little guy had mostly dried out and fluffed up.

No pictures of the dough, but I prepared a couple more test loaves. These loaves I am trying with vital wheat gluten added, and one with rosemary and olive oil.

The rest of the day was our weekly dinner ahead of family dinner. We had a wonder Cowboy Casserole made by Mrs. Mel!
